The Level 3 International Award in First Aid at Work and the Safe Use of an Automated External Defibrillator is a qualification aimed at providing candidates with the necessary knowledge, understanding and skills to support first aid and the safe use of a defibrillator in the workplace. This qualification is accredited and recognized internationally and has been developed to protect customers, staff, brand reputation and profits.

This qualification is aimed at providing candidates with the necessary knowledge, understanding and skills to support first aid and the use of a defibrillator in the workplace.
Course Duration
To complete this qualification learners should expect to undertake approximately 3 days (18 hours) of learning.
Learning Outcomes
Successful learners will be able to:
- Understand roles and responsibilities of a first aider
- Assess incidents
- Manage causalities who are unresponsive and not breathing
- Manage casualties in shock
- Administer first aid to causalities with suspected head, spinal, chest injuries, with burns, scalds and eye injuries
- Administer first aid to those suffering from sudden poisoning and anaphylaxis
- Safe use of an automated external defibrillator (AED)
Assessment Methodology
The qualification is assessed in two component parts:
Practical Observation: This practical assessment is completed throughout the course delivery. This ongoing assessment requires learners to demonstrate practical first aid skills.
Multiple-choice theory assessment: Learners are required to answer a series of questions, contained within the theory exam papers.
